Classic 3D Mario underwater exploration returns in the latest gameplay snippet, demonstrating the Super Mario Odyssey swimming mechanics.
Nintendo have started teasing the (as yet officially named) Water Kingdom in classic Nintendo style – sparingly. The first reveal came through a cover art change, and later in a phone wallpaper present. The latest in this marketing strategy has been released today, and it’s a gameplay clip (GIF) showing Mario diving and swimming underwater. It lasts about 6 seconds!
Since the first official trailer, we’ve known that Mario can swim – to what extent though wasn’t yet clear. Now, with sandbox Mario comes sandbox mechanics, so players should expect a return to the classic 3D Mario underwater exploration in the newest Kingdom. There may not be an oxygen meter, but there are a few goal rings and coins on display – we’ll no doubt find out more as we get closer to the release date.
